PROJECT

CBH Konnongorring ORB Concrete Foundation

CLIENT
LOCATION
KONNONGORRING, WA

The Brief

Strake was engaged by CBH Group to design the concrete works for the Over Rail Bin (ORB) structure located in Konnongorring, WA. The critical constraint for the project was the interaction with new rail line that was been constructed adjacent to the ORB.

The scope of work included:

  • Design of concrete elevator basement and V-pit

  • Preliminary design of concrete piled foundations

  • Verification of detailed design of piled foundations

Our Approach

Our approach was based primarily on consultation with the geotechnical engineer responsible for the rail design as strict settlement tolerances are applicable to both elements. As the rail was intending to use shallow foundations it was decided that the ORB should have deep foundations. In consultation with the geotechnical investigation it was decided that bored pile foundations were the most suitable solution.  A raft slab foundation was used for the elevator basement due ease of construction and cost benefits.

The Results

Delivered on time & within budget

Concrete foundations have been installed on time and within budget

Risk Mitigation

Operational risk of settlement has been mitigated be using a shallow foundation for the rail and deep foundation for the ORB.

"Strake provided cost efficient designs and provided prompt and practical responses to construction phase technical queries."
